All breeds of dogs have inherited health problems known to occur in that specific breed. Basenjis are no exception. Potential owners need to familiarize themselves with the breed's health issues, so they can make informed choices. Breeders need to familiarize themselves with these health issues so they can do their best to produce healthy Basenjis. Below is a list of serious or common health problems found in Basenjis. Fanconi SyndromeIPSID (Immunoproliferative small intestinal disease, malabsorption, immunoproliferative enteropathy of Basenjis, IPEB, etc.) Progressive Retinal Atrophy Hemolytic Anemia Hip Dysplasia Coloboma, Cataract, Corneal Dystrophy, and other eye anomalies Thyroid problems Persistent Pupillary Membrane (PPM) Umbilical and Inguinal Hernias
