Dedicated to the preservation of the basenji breed and, as an AKC affiliate club, the support of the sport of pure bred dogs.   Our creed is to provide information to the public regarding the health and welfare of  basenjis and to assist owners with the special needs of this unique breed of dog. Our goal is for basenjis everywhere to have a safe, healthy and well socialized life.

Established in 1964, our main activities now revolve around the main event, our annual Specialty Show and Sweepstakes, which takes place every summer. We will be sponsoring our thirty-fourth annual AKC sanctioned specialty this year. Click here for more details about this year's annual show.

What is  a  basenji?
The basenji is one of the oldest breeds of dog still in existence.  They are recorded in Egyptian engravings dating back to 3600 B.C.  With the fall of the Egyptian civilization the basenji faded into obscurity until 1861 when explorers of the "Dark Continent" rediscovered him in the Congo area of central Africa.   more...
